Ministry Staff

Robert Whitaker, Senior Pastor

Bob has been the Senior Pastor of ECC since 1998.  He has been married to Brenda since 1981 and together they have two adult children, David and Tricia.  He holds an M.Div. and S.T.M. from Yale Divinity School and has also earned a D.Min. from Princeton Theological Seminary.  He loves his family and maintains an irrational commitment to the Chicago Cubs.

John Mangrum, Senior Associate Pastor

John is the “old guy” on staff and has been at ECC since 1991. He served for nine years as Youth Pastor before moving into his current role as Sr. Associate Pastor. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Lori, and they have two married children, Kara (and her husband, Brian) and Caleb (and his wife, Jessica). John’s primary role at ECC is pastoral counseling and he has Masters degrees in counseling from both Grace Theological Seminary and Western Seminary. He loves good movies, international food, Ohio State football and any excuse to hang out with family and friends.

Dan Waugh, Pastor of Adult Ministries

Dan and Lynn, his loving and patient wife since 1997, have three boys – Caleb, Jacob, and Luke. They have been a part of ECC since moving here from PA in 2005. Dan and Lynn graduated from Houghton College. Dan completed an M.Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 2000 and a Th.M. from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis  in 2014. Dan’s love for the church survived growing up as a pastor’s kid and has only grown through the years. He enjoys baseball (go Tribe!), Ultimate Fighting, movies, hard rock music, and dead theologians (the living ones are acceptable from time to time).

Adam deWeber, Worship Pastor

Adam has been in full-time ministry since 2005, serving churches in Georgia, Ohio, and North Carolina, before finally coming home to Bloomington in 2018. Adam’s wife Gretchen grew up here, attending ECC, and they were the first couple married in our (then) new Sanctuary. Having grown up in Ohio but marrying into a Hoosier family, he’s fully Buckeye and fully Hoosier. He’s been granted dual citizenship. It’s fine. Adam and Gretchen have three awesome daughters–Ella, Amelia, and Adeline–who keep learning and growing.

In his spare time, Adam likes to hang out with his kids, make music, build things, eat breakfast (obviously the best meal of the day), play basketball, play video games, watch football, and ride his bike. His goal in ministry is to help people connect with God in a more personal way through music and media.

Nathan & Lizzy Gentry, Directors of High School Ministries

Lizzy is originally from Bloomington and went to school at DePauw University in Greencastle, where she received her undergraduate degree in communications. Currently, Lizzy is a Business Development Consultant for IU Health Southern Indiana Physicians and is on the board of directors for the Community Kitchen of Monroe County. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, the outdoors, and being around friends and family.

Nathan hails from Brownsburg, Indiana, received his undergrad degree from DePauw University, and continued on to the University of Indianapolis for physical therapy school. Nathan works for IU Health as a physical therapist as his “day job.” He has also helped coach the Bloomington South girls tennis team.

Lizzy and Nathan met as counselors at DePauw’s tennis camp and married after Nathan finished school in the summer of 2013. They looked around for churches for a few months but quickly settled in at ECC after feeling right at home. They joined the ECC staff in 2017. Nathan has always had a heart for junior and senior high school students, and both he and Lizzy are very excited about working with the high school ministry and being an even closer part of the ECC family!

Ken & Madelyn Edge, Directors of Middle School Ministries

Ken is originally from Appleton, Wisconsin. After high school, he left for Columbia, South Carolina, where he attended Columbia International University and received his undergraduate degree in Bible and Intercultural Studies in 2013. Shortly thereafter, he joined the United States Marine Corps as an active duty Marine Officer. He now works as the officer recruiter for southern Indiana. His next goal is to go to seminary to receive his M-Div.

Madelyn comes from an Army family, and did quite a bit of moving around as a kid. She received her undergraduate degree in Human Development from Washington State University. Now she works as a professional birth doula in Bloomington, supporting pregnant women and their families.

Ken and Madelyn met in Hawaii in 2016, and, after a bout of long-distance due to deployments and schooling, got married in 2018. After a year of marriage, the Marine Corps moved them to Bloomington, and they jumped right in to ECC by becoming junior high leaders and beginning a small group with other young married couples. Both Ken and Madelyn have been junior high leaders in the past, and have loved getting to interact with kids in this age group. In their free time, they enjoy music, reading together, hiking, throwing toys for their hyperactive dog, and eating good food.

Aimee Tuszynski, Director of Elementary Programs

Aimee is SO excited to help children of ECC grow in relationship with our Lord! She has been following Jesus since she was 11 years old, holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Western Michigan University, and served as a children’s director in another church for 7 years. She has been a member of ECC since 2003, an Underground volunteer assisting and storytelling since 2004, and a staff member since 2013. Aimee and her husband, Scott, have been married since 1993 and have three children who have all grown up in worship here at ECC. Evenings with her family are filled with singing, dancing, and baseball. In those rare free moments, you will most likely find her outside, chai latte in hand, as she gardens, hikes, or enjoys a good read.

Mindy Flick, Director of Early Childhood Programs

Joining the staff in 2014, Mindy and her family have been a part of the Bloomington community and ECC family since August of 2009. Mindy is a lifelong Hoosier from northern IN where she grew up and attended Bethel College, studying Elementary Education. She married Kevin, her college sweetheart, in 1998 and they have two beautiful daughters, Cora and Millie. Mindy desires to use her many years of preschool experience as a director, teaching assistant, and teacher to help young children see how loved they are by Jesus and how very important they are to Him. She is excited to be a part of the ECC staff and help guide young lives towards Him. In her free time, Mindy loves to read, cook, and sew.

Leah Wooden, Director of Elementary Worship

Matt Wooden, Children’s Camp Director

Matt has been on staff at ECC since 2001. He graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s in English and Classical Civilization, completed a master’s degree in religion from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and also finished a master’s in education from IU. He is an elementary school teacher in Bloomington who spends his summers writing for children. Matt enjoys spending free time outside and reading/writing.

Leah came as an IU student to ECC in 1999, met Matt on a Connexion mission trip, got married, and then never left! She got her Bachelors in Education with a minor in reading from IU in 2002 and taught K-2nd grade reading for two years. In 2004, she settled in at home to have and raise their three kids: Ellie, Benny, and Rowan. Actively volunteering in children’s ministry at ECC has always been near and dear to her heart as she watched Matt direct the program for ten years. Now, they’ve swapped roles! God opened the door for Matt to teach 4th grade and for Leah to join the children’s ministry team here. It’s deeply important to her to help encourage our kids and families and catch what God has for them. If she had a day to do whatever she wanted, it would include hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, one-on-one conversations about life, really good food, and some rainy weather.

Cynthia Huggins, Business Manager

Cynthia has been on staff at ECC since 2009.  She was delighted to discover that her passion for detail and minutia, lovingly tolerated by her husband, is actually a useful trait and helpful to keeping the ECC checkbook in order.  She is partial to sugared-up lattes, chocolate, and the occasional Orangina, especially when enjoyed with a good, thick volume of historical fiction.  She delights in spending time with her husband and two grown children as long as it does not involve any sort of long distance running, preferring to engage her beleaguered family with endless recitations of irrelevant but obviously fascinating trivia.

Lynne Snyder, Secretary

Lynne came to Bloomington for a degree in Music Education (recovering band geeks of the world, unite!) and decided she didn’t want to leave, joining the ECC staff in 2002.  In the office, she answers the phones, maintains the database, and in general helps facilitate communications of various sorts.  In her free time, she is a somewhat compulsive photographer and enjoys traveling, exploring the outdoors, reading historical biographies, and becoming more adventurous.

Brian Horne, Choir Director
