What is Camp Preo?

Camp Preo (“pre-Olivet”) is a four-day daycamping experience your camper won’t forget! Held at a historic Civil War-era farmstead in Springville, IN, Preo is a golden opportunity for kids to abandon the familiar and explore a new world of sights, tastes, smells, sounds, and touches.

We started Camp Preo in 2003 after decades of preparing camps for elementary students. We see it as a great chance for young campers to get their feet wet (literally and figuratively) with the camping environment. We hope this generation will be marked by wonder, and Preo will encourage its campers to think big thoughts about God, the world he’s made, and what he’s doing now. We’ll also emphasize that this pursuit is something we do in community – something we do together.

It’s a big thing to send your child to camp for the first time! We hope that our care for the details (from our high staff-to-child ratio to our commitment to allergy-safe snacks and everything in between) will comfort you as you nudge your camper from the nest.

We love being able to get kids to camp. Please know that we have always been committed to getting EVERY interested child to camp, regardless of cost. Scholarships of varying amounts are available when you register. We hope to see you on the big yellow bus this year!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is scholarship money available?
Yes. We have never turned a camper away because of cost. You can request a full or partial scholarship on our registration form. All scholarship requests will be honored.

Q: When do I drop off and pick up my child each day?
Please check in your camper at ECC between 8-8:20am. The bus returns at 1:30pm, give or take a few minutes.

Q: What kind of supervision will my camper receive?
Kids are split into groups of six campers for the week, with two counselors assigned to each group. All activities are led by additional staff.

Q: Where is Camp Preo located?
Preo is held on the grounds of Camp Olivet in Springville, IN, about 25 minutes southwest of Bloomington. We meet at Evangelical Community Church each morning and ride the bus to camp.

Q: Who runs camp, and what do you believe?
Camp Preo is operated by Evangelical Community Church in Bloomington, IN. You can read ECC’s Statement of Faith here.

Q: My child is not a Christian. Will s/he feel awkward?
We hope not. We have many campers each year from outside the church environment. We will be talking about Jesus and what the Christian faith is all about. We will not coerce your child to believe something they do not believe, nor will they be ostracized. We think your camper, as thousands of campers have in the past, will enjoy their experience at ECC Camps regardless of their faith.
